A Journey into Metta (Loving-Kindness) Meditation
In times of collective fracturing, the most radical medicine we can carry is a heart that refuses to harden. For this series, our Wednesday sanctuary will focus on the ancient practice of Metta, or Loving-Kindness.
Metta is more than a sentiment; it is a somatic orientation. It is the practice of cultivating a steady heart of unconditional love toward ourselves and the world around us. Guided by the breath and visualization, we will build our inner sanctuary of warmth, extending it from our own heart centers out to our loved ones, our communities, and even the spaces where we feel the most friction.
What to Expect:
Our Practice: Each session begins with Pranayama to settle the nervous system, followed by a guided Metta teaching and meditation.
Our Intention: We aren’t looking for “positive vibes.” We are looking for resilience. We practice Metta to ensure that while we stay fierce in our activism and boundaries, we do not lose our capacity for tenderness.
A Safe Container: Our time together will focus on devotion and nervous system regulation to rest the mind and nourish the spirit. If someone needs to be heard, we will listen with compassion and understanding, so all emotions are seen and validated.
Each session will be comprised of some or all of the following:
Every Wednesday, we gather for an hour of:
Pranayama: To focus on the different ways of breathing to connect to the breath as a way of nervous system regulation
Vibration & Sound: We’ll use our voices to set the tone, learn a mantra, and possibly sing to connect with our own vibration.
Metta Bhavana: We’ll practice cultivating loving-kindness as a radical shield against hatred and to keep our hearts soft and compassionate toward ourselves and the world around us.
